Presentations from Ancient Woodland Seminar - May 2006
A seminar on Ancient Woodland was held on Saturday 6th May 2006 at Cromford Mill. The event, which was financed by the Forestry Commission, was attended by 45 people.

Ancient woodlands are considered to be woodlands that have been in existance since at least 1600. They are our link with the historic environment. In Derbyshire we have over 2,900ha of ancient woodland, 1,800ha of which is under sympathetic management, much of this grant aided.

The aim of the seminar was to inform woodland owners of the importance of ancient woodland providing an opportunity to talk to like minded individuals and share experience over management techniques. Copies of the presentations and some of the handouts are listed below.

Presentations from Annual Forum - May 2005
On 10th May 2005 Derbyshire County Council hosted the 2005 Lowland Derbyshire Biodiversity Forum. A total of 55 delgates from a wide variety of Local BAP partnership organisations attended the Forum and particapted in the afternoon workshops.

The morning session concentrated in celebrating some of the BAP successes of the past 4 years since the last Forum including talks on Derbyshire Wildlife Trust's highly successful water vole project, Chesterfield Borough Council's Greenprint , Derbyshire County Concil's Landscape Character Assessment and Severn Trent's company BAP.

The afternoon session looked at some of the barriers and opportunities that arise when dealing with biodiversity. One talk gave an interesting example of how East Midland's Development Agency has been working with partner organisations on habitat creation on a highly contaminated site.

The workshops following the talks concentrated on looking at ways of the organisation's workign together to break some of the barriers to achiveing biodiversity sucess such as funding.
