Where is Derbyshire?
Derbyshire is situated in the north midlands of England. It is bordered to the north-west by Cheshire, to the north by Yorkshire, to the east by Nottinghamshire, and to the south by Leicestershire, in the west by Staffordshire. It measures about 52 miles from north to south, and for most of that length is only about 20 miles from east to west, in an area of approximately 2631 sq km (1016 sq miles).
Derbyshire is a county of contrasts. The moorland and dales of the north and north-west of the County are within the Peak District National Park. Elsewhere the county has more of a lowland flavour but has some beautiful river valleys, part of which is designated as a World Heritage Site.
